Last week's wildfires in southeast Taney County, which scorched nearly 2,000 acres and destroyed one man's home, are now being investigated as possible arson.
Authorities are asking for the public's help to identify who may have set the fires.
Investigators found multiple fire ignition sites where the fires took off in winds gusting to 25 mph. More than 100 firefighters and numerous agencies battled the blazes.
Those efforts included aerial water drops from a helicopter and fire-retardant chemical drops from a fixed-wing airplane.
A Gofundme page has been set up for Taney County resident Les Tennis, whose home was destroyed by the fast-moving fire. All that remains of the 84-year-old man's home is a brick chimney that's still standing.
As of Wednesday morning, donors had contributed $1,690 towards a $10,000 goal.
Forest Service spokesman Cody Norris said authorities haven't found any incendiary devices at the scenes of the fires, but law enforcement authorities are chasing some leads that point to the fires being intentionally set.
If you have any information, contact the Taney County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, or the Operation Game Thief/Operation Forest Arson Hotline at 1-800-392-1111.
