The Alameda County Fire Department sent two fire engines and eight firefighters to Pleasanton on Saturday to be ready to fight wildland fires, as dangerous fire conditions are expected through Monday.

The department said on social media that the department positioned a strike team including an emergency dispatcher, a water tender and a helicopter in Pleasanton to be closer to grasslands that are in danger because of expected high winds and dry conditions that have prompted the National Weather Service to declare “red flag” warnings for the East Bay Hills, the Diablo Range (which runs from the Bay to the Salinas Valley) and the North Bay mountains.

Winds from the north at 20 to 30 mph — with gusts up to 50 mph — are expected to develop overnight and last into Sunday morning.
