Crew Battle Heavy Fire in Fayetteville - Spectrum News

A family has experienced a Christmas Eve tragedy as their home went up in flames Tuesday night.

The Fayetteville Fire Department along six other departments went to a home on Brookside Lane just before 6:00 p.m. When they arrived, the house was on fire, with nearly the entire house engulfed.

A car also caught on fire in the blaze.

Officials say live ammunition was found in the basement of the home.

"Crews had tremendous difficulty accessing the fire,” said Fayetteville Fire Deputy Chief Jeb Benzing. “We had a down powerline that came down in front of the engine upon their arrival, which prevented them from accessing the scene directly. Then we had a collapse on the front side of the building followed by a secondary collapse on the back side of the building."

There is no word on any injuries at this time. The fire is currently under investigation.
