Large fire burns at metal recycling company in Ellis County - The Dallas Morning News

Firefighters are at the scene of a large fire that broke out at a recycling plant in Waxahachie on Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported.

Waxahachie police and fire crews responded around 4 a.m. to the scene of a scrap metal recycling facility called Oak Cliff Metals in the 500 block of Brown Industrial Road.

The fire is on the western side of Interstate 35E near Butcher Road.

Fire crews were defensively trying to stop the fire. The yard has dozens of salvaged vehicles with upholstery and other combustible materials. There is no fire hydrant at the location, so the fire department has to bring in water tankers, fire officials said. Neighboring fire departments are assisting.

Cameras from the Texas Department of Transportation showed large flames and heavy smoke billowing from the plant.

Life School is canceling classes at Life Middle School and Life High School for Wednesday as a result of the fire.
