Firefighters are battling a blaze that has engulfed multiple mobile homes on a rural highway between Banks and Vernonia, the Banks Fire District said Tuesday evening.
The fire district responded around 8:30 p.m. to a report of a residential fire. Multiple mobile homes are involved, the fire district said.
The fire district did not immediately say whether anyone was injured in the fire or what may have caused it.
Highway 47 is closed so crews can battle the flames, and around 9:05 p.m., the fire district said the road would be blocked for “a significant period of time.” Oregon Department of Transportation officials are on their way to the scene to direct traffic.
The fire district said that because the fire is so large, and in an area without hydrants, there will be at least four water tenders shuttling water from downtown Banks to the fire.
