FLINT, MI -- A small fire broke out in Flint Police Chief Phil Hart’s home on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 12.
The fire occurred after 3 p.m. on the east side of the city. No one was home when the fire broke out, Hart said. He and his wife are staying at a hotel.
“I really appreciate everyone’s concerns and all the offers to help, but we’re good. Our friends and family are assisting us right now," Hart said.
Flint firefighters responded to the house fire, which Hart said may have started in a bedroom on the second floor of the house. Flint Fire Chief Ray Barton said the situation is currently being investigated by the state’s fire investigators. The fire was contained to the second and third floors of the home.
The fire is believed to have been electrical in origin, Hart said. The police chief is now working with his insurance company to sort out the matter.
