Risk of wildfires increases through Friday as temperatures expected to soar into 70s; haze and smoky smell creep into ...

A combination of gusty winds and a warm front that will push temperatures above 70 degrees will increase the risk of wildfires through Friday in northeast Oklahoma.

On Wednesday, temperatures are expected to top out in the mid-60s by the afternoon. A southwesterly breeze and humidity values of 15 to 25 percent will increase the risk of wildfires north of Interstate 44, according to the National Weather Service in Tulsa.

A slight haze and smoky smell drifted into downtown Tulsa on Wednesday morning. A local meteorologist said it was likely from either prescribed burns on Tuesday or wildfires that were too small to be detected by radar.

Wildfire concerns ramp up Thursday, as winds are expected to increase out of the south and temperatures will soar into the 70s, meteorologists predict.

Friday poses the greatest threat of wildfire conditions as dry air moves into the region behind a cold front. Temperatures will top out in the 70s.

There's also the possibility of thunderstorms Thursday Night into Friday morning as the cold front moves through the region. The main threat for severe weather will be to the east of the Tulsa metro, according to the weather service.

Additional thunderstorm chances exist Saturday night into Sunday as another storm system rolls through the region.
