Alaskan crews help combat wildfires in the Lower 48

ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Alaskan firefighters are deploying Sunday to help with the growing wildfires in the Lower 48, with 19 crews from Fairbanks and rural Alaskan villages going to a mobilization center in Idaho.

Beth Ipsen, Spokesperson for Bureau of Land Management Alaska Fire Service says this season there have been over five million acres burned nationwide from wildfires.

Ipsen said Alaska has had a slower fire season and the massive fires in the Lower 48 have been growing.

"They are expecting to lighten in the northern Rockies so there could be an uptick in fires," Ipsen said.
