VENTURA COUNTY, California - CBSLA - Wildfires "Woolsey" and "Hill" are burning in Ventura County, just about 10 miles from where a deadly mass shooting took place in Thousand Oaks Wednesday night.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered after the brush fires erupted Thursday in the area.
More than 165 Ventura County firefighters were on scene at Hill Canyon and Santa Rosa Road after the Hill Fire broke out around 2:30 p.m., authorities said.
The fire had grown as large as 10,000 acres by 3:30 p.m., according to a Ventura County Fire spokesperson.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered for the Camarillo Springs area, along with Cal State Channel Islands and Dos Vientos.
The 101 Freeway was closed between Wendy Drive and Pleasant Valley Road due to the fire. Some drivers were seen driving the wrong way to escape the flames.
