New ideas for sensing
and preventing wildfires

I’d like to expand on Jennifer Cardenas’ letter (“Wildfires may be reduced with wireless energy,” Dec. 7) about using wireless energy to prevent wildfires by using Nikolai Tesla’s vision of broadcast power.

There are many ideas to help sense and control wildfires, some quite ingenious. In addition to extinguishing, I’d also like to see more focus on sensing and prevention.

I think automated fire-spotting towers and satellites could sense fires, and possibly some chemical sprayed before fires start could prevent them.

A summit of foresters, Cal Fire, chemical engineers, arborists and botanists should convene for a brain-storming session to come up with new ideas. PG&E should be involved. Only we can prevent forest fires.
